I just got home a couple of days ago from a holiday that included the IAPS convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I had a blast. Now that I have cleaned up the yard, watered, and planted some flowers in my yard I will start to organize and clean up the mess I left before holidays. The first thing I decided to do was try out some of my new purchases. I decided to work from one photo reference and use the pastels that I acquired from various boxed sets. These were all done on black sketchbook paper. The first is a Holbein set of pastels. The second Schminke (not terribly fair representation of the brand, as this is a quick 5 min study of a set containing a lot of variation on primary colors). There was really no mixing involved with this. I was really conscious of the butter like consistency of the pastel itself. The third was from a set that I got at the Hobby Lobby. Inexpensive but nice for quick sketching purposes.
