I tried an exercise in frustration. Took a bad photo and two color options. Great way to stop you from thinking of color and look for value.

This is another bad start with a bad photo and just winging it on a square composition. There is always a learning curve no matter where you start.

This is a small black and white photo reference. I thought I would try a thumbnail of a complicated scene and concentrate on dark and light shape only.  It actually works. It helps a lot to start with black and white.
I'm not sure if you can tell but I know what it is. I am on a tractor with my father.The picture is taken from above by my brother, who was standing on a bale wagon. I'm behind my father, barely visible and very washed out.
